Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) methods provide an approach for monitoring outcomes of an ongoing process. The idea of the approach is to produce charts that allow real time monitoring of the process, so that changes or problems can be quickly identified and remedied as needed. The methods were first devised to monitor industrial processes in the early 1950s. Their
potential use for monitoring health and medical outcomes was recognized in the 1970s. In more recent years, methods of risk adjustment have greatly extended and enhanced the
usefulness of these techniques in the medical context.
Learner Objectives:
- Define CUSUM- what is it and how does the SRTR calculate center’s performance
- Risk-adjustment methods used to compare observed-to-expected survival
- When should I be concerned about my program outcomes?
- Is it safe to share? Is it meaningful in forecasting program performance both in the short-term and long-term in view of multiple insurance company requests for the CUSUM reports to be released?
- Bayesian Charts: What are they and SRTR plans and timeline for public release
